Prop News : The PropPeople.com Newsletter Vol. 1, Issue 7 4/10/2000

Hello Prop People,
Been a busy couple of weeks here in Connecticut, which is why I
didn't get a newsletter out last week. It's also why this letter
is so
short! I'm in tech at Long Wharf for Hedda Gabler at the moment.
Martha Plimpton is our Hedda, which has actually been quite fun,
if a little hectic. Martha is quite a professional actress. In next
week's letter I'm planning on writing an article on the process
I went
through being Weapons Master for the show, and teaching her
what she needed to know so that she'd feel safe wielding
weapons on stage.
I know that there are quite a few props masters and managers
subscribed to the newsletter and the listserv, but I've noticed
a lack of artisans and carpenters. This site is for all props people,
so I would like to encourage all of you to share this site with
your
employees and co-workers. I'm a props carpenter myself, so I'd like
to hear more input from the builders and shoppers out there! Please
take a moment and tell people who may be interested about the site.
The more people we have on board, the more effective this site
can be!
On the educational front, I received an email from Sandy Strawn
this
week, who wanted to let me know that the The Professional Theatre
Training program at University of Milwaukee also has a props
program, with both an MFA and BFA track. This isn't a recruiting
year for them, but she wanted to get the word out that Delaware
didn't have the only program! Sandy has offered to write an article
on her program for the newsletter, so watch for it in the weeks
to
come. Any other programs lurking out there? I know there are a
few in Canada as well. This summer I plan to create a listing of
all
of the educational institutions in North America that offer a
program in props, so if you know of one, please let me know!
Till next week,
Sean McArdle
