Prop News : The PropPeople.com Newsletter Vol. 2, Issue 1 8/27/2000

Hello prop people!
Welcome back to the PropPeople.com Newsletter! I know that issues
have been few and far between lately, but I can say with some
certainty that that is going to change. If you have been to the
site
lately, you may have noticed that the look of the site has been
updates
a bit. And if you haven't been by lately, please stop by and take
a look!
I've got lots of exciting news this week; read on to find out what's
going on with PropPeople.com!

In this issue:
1. New Design/ Layout and Survey
2. New Areas: Prop Education and Resources

>New Design/Layout
I'm happy to announce PropPeople.com Version 2.0! I've been
learning a lot about web design lately, and I finally had time to
apply that newfound knowledge to the site. I created a new
navigation bar, optimized some graphics, and generally tried
to make the site easier to view. Please let me know if you run
across any bugs, or if your computer or browser is having any
difficulty in viewing the site.
The site is optimized for version 4.0 browsers or later. This means
that the pages look best in the latest versions of Netscape Navigator
or Internet Explorer. If you have an older version of either program,
it is free to download a new version either browser. If you do use
an older browser, I highly recommend updating it. There are a large
number of new web sites out there (mine included!) who make use
of the new features that these browsers are capable of.
I have also added a survey to the main page. I want to get a better
idea of what you as prop people want to get out of this site. I
only
have a limited amount of time and energy to put into working on
PropPeople.com, so I'd like to concentrate on the things that you
will find most helpful. Please take a moment and vote!

>New Areas: Prop Education and Resources
I have added two new sections to the site that I'm really excited
about. The first is the Prop Education area. I am building a
directory of all of the "formal" prop educational opportunities
that are available. By "formal", I mean undergraduate
or graduate
level programs that offer props curriculum. I am also building a
directory of prop internships. ***If anyone has any information
about educational opportunities that I don't have listed, or that
you yourself run, please let me know about it!***
The resources section has the potential to become the largest and
most useful part of PropPeople.com. I am building a reference
resource that will have everything from solutions to common
problems to useful web resources to articles on a variety of
subjects like casting and molding and upholstery. I want this
section to be a valued resource for anyone who does props.
We spend a huge chunk of our professional lives "reinventing
the wheel" over and over again. Wouldn't it be nice if you
could
have access to the experience of people who have done the same
task in the past, and further refine what they have accomplished?
That, in a nutshell, is the goal of the Resources section.
Right now, you will find a form in the Resources section that makes
it easy for you to send in a helpful new resource or a tip on a
new
way to create a prop. Please stop by and share your experience
with the rest of the prop community!

Next week:
A report on S*P*A*M 2000, the Society of Prop Artisan Manager's
annual meeting, which was held in Milwaukee, WI, a few weeks ago.
I was invited to present PropPeople.com to the S*P*A*M membership,
and as a result I've got some exciting new things that I am working
on.
Until next week!
